Mountain Bike Time Trial
(Stage 1 of the mtb stage race)

Event Fees:
Mountain Bike Time Trial Fee:
$25 for Adults (must be 14 or older)
Race day WALK UP registrations - go to FINISH LINE first, not the start!
Note: You may race this as a single event or as part of the stage race.

Packet Pick Up: Your racer packet will be available at the FINISH area PRIOR to your start. It is best to park at the finish area and do a warm up down the paved bike trail to the start area. Please DO NOT RIDE THE REVERSE DIRECTION ON THE TT COURSE! Please ride the paved bike trail to the start area.

It will be you solo against the clock on this fast five mile TT course of mostly hard-packed crushed granite through the fun and beautiful oak woodlands overlooking the South side of Lake Natoma. There are fast and open legs mixed with tight, twisty turns, a few technical areas and sections of pavement.

The course starts at Nimbus Flat, parallels the paved bike trail, uses the pavement when necessary and finishes off by curling under the Natoma Crossing bridge sweeping up a short hill toward the Lake Natoma Inn parking lot then finishes with a sprint the last 100 yards on pavement into the historic district of Folsom across from Bicycles Plus.

Course conditions include smooth pavement, smooth hard pack crushed granite, rock studded hard pack, drops off of stairs (with smoother go-around), rutted hard pack, loose soft dirt, long straights, sharp turns, etc...

The fastest posted time on this course:
Male:  Clint Claassen @ 16:02 in 2009
Female: Sarah Maile @ 18.26 in 2009

Full course map is
HERE. This is a great video of the Rabbit Hole cut-off by Andrew Cook.

The "Rabbit Hole" option in ONLY available for the Sport and Expert class. HERE is a Google look at the area. Description: The Rabbit Hole is 1.7 miles from start. Descending left turn off of main trail, mostly off camber. Duck under tree for steep 3 foot "rolling drop". If you can clean it even going slow you will reduce your time by 20 - 25 seconds. If you come off your bike for any reason you will probably lose time. PRE-RIDING THIS OPTION IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Remember, this is an OPTION (Sport and Expert ONLY) and not mandatory! Use your own good judgment.

RACE DAY:

Check in and pick up your racer packet at the finish area starting at 2:00pm prior to getting to the start area. Walk up race day registrations at finish area only!

Start Location: Nimbus Flat Recreation Area on Lake Natoma (Next to the CSUS Aquatic Center at Hwy 50 and Hazel). There is plenty of parking at Nimbus Flats.
Finish location:
In front of Bikes Plus /
Karen's Bakery in old town Folsom.

New Notice: The parks service cannot afford to waive the $10 parking fee at Nimbus Flat this year, it is highly recommended that you PARK HERE in Old Town Folsom (the Sutter Street area) and ride down the paved bike path to the start area as a warm up.  (Please do not ride the dirt TT course backwards!) Festivities, awards and results will be at the finish area. Karen's Bakery will be supporting us at the finish.

You may pre-ride the dirt TT course in the proper direction until 4:00 pm on race day, after that the course is CLOSED.

START TIMES: The first start will be at 4:30 pm Friday September 10. The first starting class is Expert then Sport then Beginner. Your start time is based on your class and when you registered. The earlier you register the earlier you start within your class. YOUR exact start time will be posted HERE by 6pm Thursday prior to the event. Day of registrants will start last in their class if there is room, otherwise dead last.

Mountain bikes only please :-)  We currently do not have a cyclocross class.
